Wireless‑Wiegand | Wireless RFID Signal Extender for Secure Access Control

LumiRing Wireless‑Wiegand is a wireless RFID signal extender designed to retrofit legacy access control systems. It is not only modernizes legacy access control infrastructures by wirelessly transmitting Wiegand signals typically sent over copper wires—it also enables wireless communication for a wide range of low-voltage signaling applications in smart buildings, automation systems, and smart city infrastructure. The system leverages AES-encrypted RF communication, supports over 200 FHSS channels, and offers flexible antenna options with long-range performance exceeding 1,000 feet.

Key Features & Capabilities

Supports hybrid deployment: wireless and wired (RS-485) links can be used together in one system to adapt to specific site requirements, including EMI-heavy zones or security-mandated wiring. Devices are also daisy-chainable for structured RS-485 topologies.

  • Wireless Wiegand Conversion: Wirelessly transmits Wiegand, RS-485 (including OSDP), and relay signals—eliminating the need for traditional cabling and reducing installation complexity and cost. Encrypts insecure Wiegand formats by default into secure AES-128 wireless communication.
  • Cost-Effective Installation: Saves on labor and material, ideal for complex environments.
  • Universal Compatibility: Fully compatible with all standard Wiegand (4–80 bits) and RS-485 (including OSDP) devices. Supports seamless integration with virtually any access control panel or RFID reader—including HID, Breivo, Suprema, ZKTeco, Honeywell, Bosch, and hundreds of other industry-standard systems—without requiring custom adapters.
  • Long-Range Flexibility: While the standard configuration supports ranges up to 3,280 ft (1,000 meters), real-world deployments have demonstrated reliable performance across several miles in open environments. The system also penetrates multiple concrete walls—enabling communication deep into underground parking structures or upwards through more than 20 floors of reinforced buildings. Antenna selection and elevation are critical to optimizing these extended capabilities:
    • Omnidirectional – 360° coverage
    • Directional – Focused beam
    • Yagi – High gain, long distance
    • Panel – Medium-range, wide beam
  • Encrypted & Resilient: AES-128 encryption and custom-built wireless protocol make data transmission virtually impossible to intercept or spoof.
  • Flexible Connection Modes: The WW Master and Slave can connect wirelessly or via a wired RS-485 bus—ideal for scenarios requiring deterministic or EMI-resistant links.
  • Relay-Only Operation: Even without Wiegand, Wireless Wiegand can function purely as a secure wireless relay system for gate control and dry-contact signaling.
  • Plug-and-Play Auto Pairing: Easy deployment with auto-reconnection
  • Built-in Diagnostics: LED indicators for system health

System Components

Master Unit

Manages data input and controls up to 4 relays. Integrates with existing systems. Supports wireless or RS-485 wired connection to the Slave unit. Devices can be daisy-chained via RS-485 for linear installations or structured wiring.

Slave Unit

Offers 4 relay outputs, 8 inputs, and emergency override. Suitable for elevators and secure doors. Can be used as a relay-only node without Wiegand.

    Q & A

  • FAQ 1: Is Wireless‑Wiegand secure compared to wired Wiegand? Yes. Wireless‑Wiegand encrypts data (AES‑128) and uses FHSS with 200 channels, delivering secure, resilient communication.
  • FAQ 2: What range can I expect? Typical installs reach up to 1,000 meters (3,280 ft). Open environments can extend farther with directional or Yagi antennas.
  • FAQ 3: Will it work with my controller and reader? Yes. It supports Wiegand (4–80 bits) and RS‑485 (OSDP), integrating with common controllers and readers without special adapters.
  • FAQ 4: How fast is installation? Power via 12 VDC, 24 VDC, or USB for site surveys. No trenching or cabling—pair units and deploy in minutes. For a practical demonstration of how LumiRing Wireless‑Wiegand eliminates cabling challenges in access control, watch our Wireless‑Wiegand demo video on YouTube.
